This is why you should have an unplugged wedding
You wouldn’t believe how many gorgeous wedding photos are ruined by an iPad or phones all over the place. Trust me, I’ve seen it many times and that’s why I’ve decided to write the main reasons why you definitely should consider having an unplugged wedding.
An unplugged wedding is when a couple getting married prefer that their wedding guests didn’t take any photos and/or upload them on social media.
There are many variations to this, some couples prefer having an unplugged ceremony only, others prefer having a ‘no photo policy’ for the entire wedding and others prefer their guests didn’t post any photo on social media until the following day or when the bride and groom have announced their marriage themselves.
What are the benefits of having an unplugged wedding?
Your guests will be more present.
Let’s be honest, our phone is a huge distraction in our daily lives. That’s why, without the distraction of their phones and/or camera, your guests will be free to immerse themselves in the experience you’ve spent months (if not years!) planning!
Your guests will be more likely to listen and remember your vows, laugh at the funny speeches and cheer you on for your first dance rather than experience through a small screen.
“We decided to have one at the very last minute….literally, 5 minutes before the music started, we asked our officiant to say something. Given that our ceremony was a little off the wall, and our officiant was crazy (awesome), he made an announcement about “Keep it in your pants during the ceremony”, which was funny, and was a huge hit and success.” -Yasmina
Your professional photos won’t be ruined
Although the technology of taking photos has advanced, the photography skills of most people haven’t. Yes, I said it.
A professional and experienced wedding photographer will make sure to give you the best experience, with the best results and with any lighting situation. The extra benefit of not having your guests taking photos is that their camera/phones won’t be in your professional photos.
Everyone’s privacy is respected
Some people like to post everything on their social media platforms. Some people assume that everyone in the photo/video is okay with it being publicized, which may not always be the case. So, in order to avoid any awkward situation, you know where you could start creating some boundaries.
But how do you ask your guests to skip the Snapchat and Instagram stories?
In most cases asking your family and friends to go unplugged for the whole wedding, won’t work. However, it is totally acceptable to ask your guests to switch off (or at least make sure it’s on silence) during the ceremony. My best advice is to add signage or chalkboard at the entrance of your ceremony.
To avoid misunderstanding, be clear with your guests about what you mean by no unplugged wedding. Say exactly what you want and don’t want. When your guests know the rules, they’re easier to follow!

Share the professional photos with your guests!
I love when my couples share their online gallery with their guests. Is always fun to look back at those funny pictures and share them with your guests after your wedding. The most important part of arranging an unplugged wedding is communication. So make sure your guests know what to expect and remember to share with them these awesome images.
