Why Did You Choose to Become a Wedding Photographer?
Wedding photography means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Some think it’s a luxury business, others think it’s a complete stressful job.
One of the questions that I get asked the most is:
“Steven, why did you choose to become a wedding photographer?”
Friends, let me answer that question with the next 4 reasons why I’ve become a wedding photographer.
1 – The Ability to Document the Big Day
Being a wedding photographer means that I’m the responsible one to capture a wedding day and tell a complete story with artistic imagery. I’m the one to document one of the most important days in someone’s life.
For me, that’s such a big deal… and I LOVE IT!
I love the ability to capture the key moments (and moments between moments) of the wedding day and tell a complete love story. These photos will be the only keepsakes left after the wedding for the couples to relive their big day.
2 – New Relationships are Built
One of my favourite things about being a wedding photographer is the ability to connect with new couples and ultimately become their friends. Seriously, I’m constantly chatting with my couples, we go out for dinner, we tag each other on memes… it’s so much fun!
Cause, seriously, who wants to work with someone that is not as EXCITED as you are for your day?
🗣ABSOLUTELY NO ONE!
For me, is all about the connection – I want my couples to feel that they have a FRIEND helping them with their wedding and ready to celebrate with them on their big day!
3 – Every Wedding is a New Adventure!
If you’re anything like me, you LOVE adventures. When I was a kid, I used to play paintball with my father. The first time I heard my camera’s shutter, it reminded me of the paintball gun. Today, I see myself playing paintball with my camera and the goal is to “shoot” everyone ;).
This analogy might’ve been a terrible idea. But, trust me, I only shoot people with my camera on their wedding day – there’s no gun involved!
Every wedding is unique. Each day unfolds differently, poses different challenges and gives you the ability to be creative. It’s so exciting to see that each wedding I photograph it’s photographed in its unique way.
4 – Appreciation & Enthusiasm from My Couples
The ultimate reward of being a wedding photographer is when your couples tell you that they are in love with the whole experience. Yes, not only the photos… the whole experience.
For me, it’s not only about the photos. It’s about making my couples feel like they are my complete priority as soon as they book with me. I want to make sure that they feel heard and well taken care of.
I love hearing stories like this one from Peter and Dana:
“From the first point of contact, Steven was very friendly and proactive. I told him exactly how I wanted my beach proposal to be, and he took my plan and made it even better than I could imagine. This, is, without a doubt the coolest feeling one can have. At this point, you know you’ve hit a home-run and made an extremely gracious and happy client, one who will cherish their photos for years to come.
I can go on and on but to me, these are the most important reasons why I love to do what I do. In 2012, I picked my dad’s old camera, I followed my passion and made my hobby the business of my dreams. Today, I just wanted to share this inside look, so you know just how much I love what I do. Truly.
