How to Run a Successful Business
Let me start by saying that you are about to get disappointed. You might have come here because you thought I was going to tell you how to run a successful business, (Duh, that’s exactly what the title says, Steven!). However, my definition of success might not exactly be what you’re thinking about.
Still here? Good.
Running a successful business shouldn’t be about how much money you make, or how cool you look, or what kind of gadgets you have. Running a successful business should be defined in your own terms.
Success for me is…
…having valuable friends and family that support me every single day.
…having my parents one call away whenever I need them… and whenever I don’t need them.
…waking up in the morning and having a hot coffee before leaving the house. (#coffeedrinker!)
…working with people that I love and value.
And while other people might not agree with my definition of success. I don’t care. I define my own terms of success. And I am successful.
After all, I might not have the answer to how to run a successful business. But if you want to take something out of this blog post, take this:
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Now is your turn. What does success mean for you?
