However, here’s a spoiler alert: one of the “key ingredients” on hiring a professional wedding photographer is: personality.
So, while I might be biased, at the same time, I’m showing you my personality (In this LIVE video!) even before you inquiry with me. Now, all it takes for you to decide: “Yes, I like you Steven” or “No, I don’t like you”. Both situation? I’m totally okay with it.
Because, as much as you want to have fun at your wedding. I want to keep my business fun as well. Because first and foremost, I want to have fun while working and I can only achieve that with like-minded people.
Now, let me make this clear…
Your photographer will spend the whole day with you.
From getting ready to the first look to the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception… that’s around 12 hours with the same person.
Now, my question to you is: Do you want to have fun while taking pictures on your wedding day?
Well, if your answer is yes… stick around and let me guide you through 3 simple steps on choosing the right wedding photographer
Know what you want
There are different types of wedding photography styles. For example photojournalism, here’s where the photographer focuses documenting your day as it unfolds. The photos will be more authentic instead of posing. Traditional wedding photography style, on the other hand, is where the photographer will be leading most of the time and will create different poses in order to capture styled shots.
So, before you start looking for at different websites and start emailing different photographers, know exactly what you want and THEN start looking for who could provide that.
Choose your top 3 wedding photographers.
Once you have chosen your preferred style. Start researching different photographers in your area. Look at their portfolio, reviews and then look at their price list. Not all photographers have their pricing on their website, so you’d have to send them an email for extra information.
Narrow down your top 3 favourite photographers and request a video call.
Personality check
While portfolio, reviews and pricing are important. The most important aspect of hiring of a wedding photographer, in my opinion, is personality. Think about it, you will spend around 12 hours with your photographer on your wedding day. Do you want to spend the whole day with someone you don’t even know a bit? Heck no!
Your wedding day is a celebration. Is the day you start a new phase in your life. Stalk your photographer and make sure their personality resonates with you.
Places where you can get to know your photographer better: their website and social media. When was their latest post? Are they constantly updating their social platforms? Are they active at all?
This is your wedding, and hopefully, you will only be having one wedding day. So, you only have one chance to capture your wedding day. In five years, I want you to look back at your photos and feel happy about them. These photos are for you to treasure, for you to show to your friends, family, grandchildren.
Friends, if you want to take one thing out of this post, take this: Your wedding day is special and unique. Make sure you take some time choosing the right person to document this special day.
