Okay, I get it…

Hiring a professional photographer to take your personal brand photos is not possible at this moment because, well… we’re in the middle of a pandemic. 

However, you can use your phone… (yes, you heard that right, your phone!)… to take a beautiful profile picture for your LinkedIn account (or any account, really).

In this video, I share three tips with you on taking your own profile photo with your iPhone.

Find consistent lighting.

The first and most important tip is to make sure you have really good lighting. What’s considered good lighting? You may ask. Personally, I love using natural lighting as much as possible. As shown in the video, you can sit in front of a big window and have natural light hit your face.

Find a non-distracting background.

Once you’ve found good lighting, the next step is to avoid too many distractions in the background. This will take away the attention of your face. I live in a studio apartment where my kitchen, bedroom and office are in the same room, which means that you really don’t need a lot of space to do so.

Once you have good lighting and a non-distracting background, now is time to take your phone and take a selfie. If you’re using an iPhone, you can control the exposure by first tapping into the camera and then scrolling up for more exposure, and down for less exposure.

Edit your photo with lightroom mobile

Now that you have taken your selfie, is time to edit your photo. Personally, I use Lightroom Mobile version to edit my phone photos and I edit them with my One Happy Island Presets. My presets include 12 different Lightroom presets all inspired by the vibrant colours of Aruba.
