How to Get the Best Photos when Getting Ready on Your Wedding Day
Imagine being in your room with your bridal squad the morning on your wedding day. You’re all getting your hair and makeup done, sipping some mimosas as the photographer snaps away some pictures, and all the details are well taken care of. All of this can happen if you plan in advance. Here are my best 5 tips on getting the best photos when getting ready on your wedding day.
Start getting ready early in the morning
As a photographer, I like to arrive at least one hour before the bride gets into her dress. I do this to make sure I can take pictures of all the wedding details. Think about your wedding invitation styled with your flowers or your wedding dress hanging from your personlized hanger. All those photos take time to plan, style and photograph. So, if you start getting ready early in the morning, there’s no need to rush when the photographer arrives.
Keep all of your wedding details together
If you want to avoid having to guide your photographer to your details, my best advice is to prepare these details the night before. These details shots will help tell the story of your wedding day. Assign a bridesmaid, or the one helping you throughout the day, to place all of your important details together somewhere where it is easily accessible for when your photographer arrives. This will make it so easy for you, your bridesmaids and your photographer.
Have your bouquet delivered when getting ready
This might be something you might not even think about. Many florist would deliver the flowers right before the ceremony. However, by having your flowers delivered while you’re getting ready you ensure your photographer can use your flowers as props in your detail photos. Just make sure you communicate with your florist in advance and communicate how important it is to have the flowers delivered in the morning.
Think about what you will be wearing before getting ready.
I’m pretty sure you know what you will be wearing on your wedding day. However, do you know what you will be wearing before you get dressed? When getting your hair and makeup done, make sure you’re wearing something that you can easily take on and off without going over your head. Think about robes and button-down shirts with personlized names on them.
Eat and stay hydrated
Besides having a lot of fun, which I’m sure you will be having, I want to make sure you eat and stay hydrated. Especially if you’re going to drink some mimosas with your bridal squad, you’d definitely want to start your day with a good breakfast. This can be easily overlooked, don’t let this happen to you!
Bonus tip: if you don’t have any way for food to be delivered to you, or you just forgot to do it, this task is a great one for Dads who want to stay busy in the morning! (You’re welcome!)
