One of the things that can take a lot of time on your wedding day is family photos.

However, there are always some ways where you can make this process runs smoothly and FUN!

The best thing is to discuss together, without anyone present, which groups are absolutely necessary for you.

I always advise my clients to think who are the people who you really want in your formal pictures. For example; if you have family members that are travelling for your wedding, those are definitely going on the list!

The best time to plan a family photo session is right after the first look.

Now, I get it, not every couple takes the first look route, and that’s totally fine! However, I always advise my clients to take the first look route so we can batch some time for bride and groom photos, bridal party and formal family photos.

If, on the other hand, you’re doing a traditional route, it’s best to take the family photos during the cocktail hour. This usually happens after the ceremony. So, while everyone is hanging around and chit-chatting, we can take these formal photos.

Now, you might argue that you don’t want to take too much time taking family photos because, well… you prefer having champagne and snacks at the cocktail hour with your friends… AND I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU.

However, I know how important these photos are for you, but especially, for your parents (and grandparents!). So, I strongly encourage you to take some time and plan this session before-hand so you can save some time on your wedding. (and get back faster to the bar… 😉 )
