#20 – How to know if your content is good enough

August 13, 2020
The Steven de Cuba Podcast

Let me the first one to say: it doesn’t matter.

Perfectionism is subjective.

The way you judge your content is TOTALLY different than the way your audience would judge your content. You may think that your content is not good enough, you might see the little things in your craft… but trust me, those are the things that ONLY YOU are looking at.

The reason you’re looking at these small details is that you’ve been doing your craft for a long time already and you see all the little pieces.

You might think that something is beautiful, I might think it’s ugly… who wins the argument? None of us. We both have different views and BOTH are OKAY.

So if we know that perfectionism is subjective… and STILL, we’re not showing up on social media… then it should be about something else…

Fear…

Of judgment?

Of failure?

Of doing the uncomfortable?

How about we start looking at fear as a GOOD thing? How about we start using fear as a motivation to start doing the things that are uncomfortable.

Because do you know what happens when you do the uncomfortable thing? You get different results. And when you get different results, you learn new lessons. And when you learn new lessons, you get different results.

So, if right now, you’re thinking about starting a brand online and you really want to make this happen… but at the same time, you’re not showing up AT ALL online because you’re letting FEAR dictate your actions.

I’d love to invite you to start changing your perspective on fear.

So, I was reading this article online around fear and this is what I’ve found out…

Fear is a natural, powerful, and primitive human emotion. It involves a universal biochemical response as well as a high individual emotional response

Fear alerts us to the presence of danger or the threat of harm, whether that danger is physical or psychological.

Biochemical Reaction

Fear is a natural emotion and a survival mechanism. When we confront a perceived threat, our bodies respond in specific ways. Physical reactions to fear include sweating, increased heart rate, and high adrenaline levels that make us extremely alert.

This physical response is also known as the “fight or flight” response, with which your body prepares itself to either enter combat or run away. This biochemical reaction is likely an evolutionary development. It’s an automatic response that is crucial to our survival.

Emotional Response

The emotional response to fear, on the other hand, is highly personalized. Because fear involves some of the same chemical reactions in our brains that positive emotions like happiness and excitement do, feeling fear under certain circumstances can be seen as fun, like when you watch scary movies.

In other words: your brain has no idea when it’s a positive or negative type of fear.

Knowing these two things, how about when we start feeling anxious, nervous, and worried about something… how about we start taking deep close attention to where the fear is coming from.

If you’re in the wilderness and you think there’s a lion behind you and you feel in danger, then this is not what I’m talking about! Haha!

I’m talking about when you’re about to post that photo, upload the story, or go live on Instagram. You that little feeling you get before posting? How about we start taking deep close attention to that feeling and reframing how we perceive the fear.

What would you think would happen when you start reframing how we see fear?

  • You’re going to show up more confidently online.
  • You’re going to start doing more of the uncomfortable.
  • You’re going to start seeing different results in your business.
  • You’re going to start exploring new opportunities.

And what do you think happens when you do that?

  • You’re going to start attracting new opportunities to your business.
  • You’re going to start seeing your business from a different lens.
  • You’re going to stop worrying about if your content is good or not. (You’re still going to produce high-quality content! But, you’re not going to feel stuck at the point of publishing it.)
  • You’re going to start inspiring more people to do the same thing.
  • You’re going to position yourself as a leader and people are going to start looking up to you because you decided to make the change in your life.

Friend, the choice is in your hands… what are you going to choose today?
