I’m going to admit it. Sometimes it is hard for us as photographers to take photos of all your details within a super tight schedule. However, by answering these next questions, you will learn exactly how to create a wedding photo timeline, so you can make sure you have every detail covered.

Okay, let’s say you already have a basic idea of how you would like your wedding day to unfold. There are probably some small details you would have to keep in the back of your mind to tie it all together.

For example:
How much time will you spend taking family photos?
How far is the bridal prep location from the ceremony?
What time is the ceremony?
What time is the cocktail hour?
What time is the reception?

Make sure to share these questions with your photographer. This will help him/her make a mini action plan in their head.

Here’s how I do it:

I normally shoot with a second photographer. I will spend around 30 minutes doing bridal prep, and my second photographer will shoot the groom prep. (wedding dress, invitation, accessories, the actual getting into the dress etc)

I spend approximately 30 minutes doing the first look and taking bridal photos. (I will position the groom in a way that he won’t see the bride until I give him the cue)

I will spend around 30-60 minutes with the Bride + Groom taking their photos.

I will make sure they have a checklist so we can spend less than 30 minutes doing family photos.

And lastly, I would spend around 10 minutes taking photos of the ceremony decor, and 15 minutes taking photos of the reception decor.

Based on the answers to the questions mentioned above, I follow up with my clients and help them create a wedding photo timeline.
